BROOKLYN BROWNSTONE

A modest turn-of-the-century Brownstone was transformed into a contemporary dwelling while restoring its period details. Beginning with the now vinyl clad, parapetless building, we stripped the interior to its studs and rebuilt both upper floors to adjust for a previous one foot subsidence of the rear of the structure. The now level floors and ceilings provided the foundation for precise contemporary millwork to seamlessly blend  with the building’s interiors. Echoing the rounded corners of earlier original rooms, an understated language of scoops, piano curves, and radiused intersections eases movement around the narrow 16-foot-wide brownstone. The main floor fully transforms the brownstone into a single open loft-like space featuring an island kitchen joining dining and living.
