BROWN STACK STUDY
Newly proposed environmental rules necessitated a new higher stack for Brown University’s central heating plant, a historic work of modern architect Félix Candela. Working within the technical constraints of the stack, and community sensitivity to historic materials we abstracted Candela’s folded masonry geometry to create a new masonry stack with a sense of rotation and diminishment as it grew from the ground.
